Day 1. In the tri-border area (Brazil, Colombia)

The crew welcomes you aboard the boutique ship MS Jangada, which will be your comfortable home for the next twelve nights. In the late afternoon, you explore Leticia on foot. The capital of the Colombian Amazon province offers a relaxed atmosphere and an exciting ethnological museum. At sunset, you will witness a curiosity in the well-kept city park: thousands of parrots return loudly to their sleeping trees!
Overnight: On board (D)

Day 2. World of Wonder Amazon (Brazil, Peru)

Today you will reach the last Brazilian outpost on the border with Peru, the city of Benjamin Constant. Land vehicles take you to visit the still very secluded Matis and Marubo natives. First, you will get to know the small village of the Marubo. After a jungle hike, you will meet the Matis, who have only been in contact with the outside world for a few decades. During this visit you will learn about the way of life, hunting practices and rituals of this indigenous people. Once you’ve returned to the Marubo village, you’ll get a fascinating insight into their traditions there. Then, it’s time to cast off on the MS Jangada! In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to go on an exciting excursion on the tour boats to observe the local wildlife. Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 3. Visiting the Ticuna (Brazil)

During the night, the MS Jangada anchored in front of the town of Santa Rita. You are now deep in the Ticuna area, one of the largest indigenous protected areas in Brazil. In the morning, you will take a tour of the village of Campo Allegre, translated as red square, with the caçique. In the afternoon, there will be a lecture on the indigenous population of Brazil. Afterwards, you will take an exciting boat trip on the Rio Camatiã, near the city of São Paulo de Olivença.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 4. Indigenous Culture in the Amazon (Brazil)

At night, the MS Jangada reaches the town of Santo Antonio do Iça. In the morning you will travel to Bethania by motorboat through idyllic river tributaries. In a ritual hut, you will experience the traditional initiation dance Moça Nova. Imaginative masks, black robes, decorated with feathers and shells. After lunch you will return to the MS Jangada. In the afternoon, you will learn very clearly at the on-board bar how to prepare a typical Brazilian Caipirinha.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 5. At the end of the world (Brazil)

In the morning, you arrived in the small town of Jutai. On a walk through the town you will get to know the life of the Caboclos, as people are called here. Then sit back and relax on the sun deck and enjoy the friendly service on board. The Jangada travels through one of the most sparsely populated Amazon regions, with bizarre jungle giants on the right and left. Again and again you see the dorsal fins of grey and pink river dolphins. In the afternoon, an excursion on the excursion boats to observe the wildlife awaits you.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 6. Butter on the fish (Brazil)

From Fonte Boa, take a boat excursion to one of the small tributaries, where the inhabitants live off the catch of the gigantic pirarucu fish. This fish weighing up to 150 kg is extremely tasty and is exported to all of Latin America. In the afternoon, you will be given an exciting lecture on board about environmental and nature conservation in Brazil, before a boat trip in the rainforest awaits you. Overnight: On board (BLD)

7. Tag Ankunft in Pretoria

7. Tag Ankunft in Pretoria

Day 7. Forest tour by canoe (Brazil)

Today you head into the fascinating Mamiraua National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a highlight of your trip. By motor canoe and on foot, you will look for the scarlet face of a Uacari monkey or a large sloth in the treetops. But huge cormorant colonies, colorful parrots and toucans also offer a great spectacle. In the afternoon there is another excursion in this fascinating national park. After dinner, a spectacular night trip awaits you to observe the Diamond Eyes of the caimans and other nocturnal animals while listening to the nocturnal sounds of the rainforest.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 8. In the footsteps of the missionaries (Brazil)

Your ship sets off at dawn and leaves the Mamirauá National Park. After breakfast, you will first explore the town of Tefé, the largest town on your Amazon journey, with its lively market. Pupunha, Graviola, Taperibá – fruits that you have never seen, let alone eaten, can be admired here. Next to Tefé is the Salesian mission from the 18th century. The panoramic view from the monastery complex high above the river that has been flowing lazily for ages is breathtaking. And the old monastery buildings, which are still in use today, contain many historical gems. In the afternoon, an on-board lecture will give you an insight into the history of Brazil up to the present day, before you get back into the boats to explore the beauty of the region.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 9. Açai and Brazil Nuts (Brazil)

Villa Lira is the starting point for your forest hike today. Around the village you will learn a lot about harvesting the miracle berry Açaí, about Brazil nuts – in Germany, Brazil nuts – and the processing of the manioc root. Back on board, a lecture about the Açaí berry completes your newly acquired knowledge. The MS Jangada then sails past the town of Coarí to the mouth of the Rio Badajos, your destination for today. In the evening, you will see the first part of Werner Herzog’s classic Fitzcarraldo in the on-board cinema – the best film for your jungle adventure!
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 10. The Fishermen of the Rio Purus (Brazil)

In the early morning, you will explore the delta of the Rio Badajos tributary by excursion boat, which flows into the Amazon here after more than 1,500 km from Colombia. Rare species of birds, sloths and howler monkeys can be found in this area. In the afternoon, you will watch the fishermen on the Rio Purus as they go about their strenuous task of catching large catfish. After dinner, you will end the day with the second part of Fitzcarraldo.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 11. Pink Dolphins (Brazil)

The MS Jangada anchored off Anamá during the night. After a hearty breakfast, you will discover the flora and fauna of the region on an excursion before exploring the magical western town of Anamá on foot. The MS Jangada then continues its journey towards Manaus. In the afternoon, a lecture will give you an insight into the history of the Amazon River. Your destination for the day is the Rio Januacá, in whose mouth pink dolphins often frolic.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 12. Two Rivers, Two Colors (Brazil)

Early in the morning, you set off on an exploratory trip on the Rio Januacá. Here, in addition to large iguanas and caimans, you often also come across macaws and toucans. And you’ll soon encounter your next adventure on the program: you’ll try to catch the sharp-toothed piranhas using fishing rods. In the afternoon, a magnificent natural spectacle awaits you: the black water of the Rio Negro meets the light brown Amazon. Both rivers flow next to each other in the same riverbed for kilometers without the waters mixing. Shortly before Manaus, the MS Jangada turns into Lake Januari for your last night on board, where you will spend the night.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 13. Manaus – Opera in the jungle (Brazil)

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to your beautiful ship and the lovely crew. A short city tour will bring you closer to Manaus, the city with the famous opera in the jungle. (B)
