Day 1 Welcome to the Amazon! Two rivers – Two colours (Brazil)

The crew welcomes you aboard the boutique ship MS Jangada, which will be your comfortable home for the next twelve nights. Shortly after embarking, a magnificent natural spectacle awaits you: the black Rio Negro meets the light brown Amazon. Both colours flow side by side for miles – without mixing! The rest of the afternoon you will have time to settle into your cabin and gather your first impressions of life on the river and the shore from the sun deck.
Overnight: On board (D)

Day 2 Anamá and Rio Purus (Brazil)

Early in the morning, embark on a boat excursion to study the flora and fauna of the Anamá region. After a visit to a village, the Jangada continues its journey to the Rio Purus around noon. Colourful macaws, herons, and ibises circle above the treetops as you watch the fishermen strenuously fish for giant catfish. On the way to the Rio Badajos, watch the everyday life of the colourful stilt villages of the great river as they pass by. With a bit of luck, you’ll see pink river dolphins.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 3 Rio Badajos (Brazil)

In the early morning, take a boat trip. The variety of bird species in this region is particularly rich. For example, here you can find the very rare, huge horned screamer. Sloths, caimans, and the giant water rose “Victória Amazonica” can also be seen very often on the Rio Badajos. In the afternoon, another boat trip awaits you to explore the flora and fauna of the rainforest.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 4 Brazil nuts, cassava and the superfood açaí (Brazil)

Overnight, your ship has reached the village of Via Lira. On a forest walk around the village you will learn all about the harvest of the açaí berry, the cultivation of the Brazil nut and the processing of the cassava root. After returning on board, the processing of açaí will be clearly explained in a lecture. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on another tour with the excursion boats en route to Tefé.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 5 Following the footsteps of missionaries (Brazil)

The nucleus of Tefé, the largest place on your Amazon journey, is the 18th century Salesian monastery. The panoramic view from the monastery complex high above the brown stream, which has been flowing sluggishly for ages, is breathtaking! In the small town of Tefé, you can visit the large market hall together and also have free time for your own discoveries. In the afternoon, head to the fascinating Mamirauá National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the great highlights of your trip. With excursion boats and on foot, explore rainforest areas that are completely flooded six months a year and home to unique flora and fauna. You might discover the scarlet face of an Uakari monkey or a large sloth in the treetops. But also huge cormorant colonies, colourful parrots, and toucans offer a great show. On a night out you will also search for nocturnal animals and the diamond eyes of the caimans.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 6 Forest tour by canoe (Brazil)

Today, you can once again experience the fascination of the rainforest up close – on an excursion with the villagers in their small canoes. Birds, monkeys, caimans – all within reach! Around noon, you will leave the Mamirauá National Park and head west towards Fonte Boa. On board, enjoy the exotic everyday life on the river. Fishermen cast their nets; children offer fruit and vegetables from small canoes. People in hammocks aboard colourful Amazon ships may even wave at you. Exciting on-board lectures also provide amusement.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 7 Butter on the fish (Brazil)

From Fonte Boa, take a boat excursion to one of the small tributaries, where the inhabitants live off the catch of the gigantic pirarucu fish. This fish weighing up to 150 kg is extremely tasty and is exported to all of Latin America. From Fonte Boa, the Jangada continues its journey upstream, where you will take another interesting boat trip in the afternoon and then continue overnight to Jutai.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 8 At the end of the world (Brazil)

In the morning, a boat trip will take you to the tributaries around Jutai. On a walk through the town you will get to know the life of the Caboclos, as people are called here. Then sit back and relax on the sun deck and enjoy the friendly service on board. The Jangada travels through one of the most sparsely populated Amazon regions, with bizarre jungle giants on the right and left. Again and again you see the dorsal fins of grey and pink river dolphins. A lecture will inform you about the world of the Ticuna, the most important indigenous people of the state of Amazonas.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 9 Visiting a Ticuna Village (Brazil)

Today you will travel to Bethania by motorboat through idyllic river tributaries. In a ritual hut, you will experience the traditional initiation dance Moça Nova. Imaginative masks, black robes, decorated with feathers and shells – welcome to the world of the Ticuna! After lunch amidst the lush green nature of the Rio Iça, you’ll return to your ship and continue your journey. Your destination for today is Sao Paulo de Olivença.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 10 Amazon Superfood (Brazil)

In the morning, you will have the opportunity to go piranha fishing and swim in the river. There is plenty to discover on a varied boat tour on the Rio Camatiã. In the afternoon, you will get to know the everyday life of the indigenous population in the Ticuna village of Villa Lira. When the Amazon shimmers in red and purple at sunset, the Jangada sets out for the last long leg of your Amazonian journey.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 11 Visiting the Jaguar Men (Brazil, Peru)

Today you will reach the last Brazilian outpost on the border with Peru, the city of Benjamin Constant. Land vehicles take you to visit the still very secluded Matis and Marubo natives. First, you will get to know the small village of the Marubo. After a jungle hike, you will meet the Matis, who have only been in contact with the outside world for a few decades. During this visit you will learn about the way of life, hunting practices and rituals of this indigenous people. In the afternoon, the Jangada has already arrived in the port of Tabatinga and you will take a trip to the Peruvian town of Santa Rosa on the other side of the river.
Overnight: On board (BLD)

Day 12 In the tri-border area (Brazil, Colombia)

In the morning, after the usual abundant breakfast on board, you will explore the Colombian twin city of Leticia on foot. The capital of Colombia’s Amazon province offers plenty of flair and an ethnological museum that is worth a visit. In the afternoon, packing and formalities for leaving Brazil are already on the agenda.
Overnight: On board (BLD)
