    Day 1 – Welcome to Canada!

    Halifax is not only the capital of Nova Scotia, but also the cultural and economic heart of the maritime provinces. The port city combines the past with an increasingly sophisticated present. Upon arrival, your tour guide will greet you and drive you to your comfort hotel, where you will stay for the next two nights.

    Overnight: Hampton Inn by Hilton (or similar)

    Day 2 – Halifax and Peggy’s Cove

    Halifax is located at one of the largest natural harbours in the world and has a proud maritime heritage. On a city tour, you’ll visit the Citadel, public gardens, and harbour area, including the restored historic buildings. Then continue to Peggy’s Cove, a fishing village with a characteristic lighthouse that looks like a picture book example of the romantic places of the North American East Coast. You’ll visit the Bluenose, Canada’s most famous ship, also depicted on the ten-cent coin, and the Fisheries Museum in Lunenburg.

    Day 3 – Halifax - Québec City

    You have the morning free. In the afternoon, transfer to Halifax Station to board the Ocean train. The comfortable train takes you on a spectacular 1,300 km route through three provinces to Québec. You’ll sleep overnight on the train.

    Day 4 – Savoir-vivre in Québec

    Early in the morning you will arrive in Québec City. A transfer will take you to the city for a delicious breakfast. Start your city tour strengthened. Declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations, Québec City is a true joy for photographers! You will visit the Old Town with its historic city walls, Battlefields Park, the Citadel and the ornate city gates of the Upper Town. The rest of the day is yours for your own explorations in the winding city.

    Day 5 – VIA Rail Corridor ton Montréal

    In the morning, take the VIA Rail Corridor train to Montreal. Here you can immerse yourself in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the second largest French-speaking city in the world. The highlights of your city tour include the Notre-Dame Basilica and the historic Old Town, the city’s residential and financial districts, and the charming Latin Quarter. An impressive panoramic view of the city and the St. Lawrence River from a lookout point on Mount Royal, which gave the city its name, makes the day perfect.

    Day 6 – On the St. Lawrence River

    The St. Lawrence River, the route of the early explorers and the main axis of New France, played a prominent role in Canada’s early history and remains the focal point of much of the province of Quebec. It is the most important commercial waterway in Canada and, at 2,900 km, is one of the longest rivers in the world. In the morning, take a boat tour and discover Montreal’s breath-taking sights from the water. The afternoon is available for your own discoveries.

    Day 7 – VIA Rail Corridor Train to Toronto

    Today you’ll take the VIA Rail Corridor train from Montreal to Toronto. The train follows the St. Lawrence River into agricultural Ontario. After your arrival, you will have the rest of the day at your disposal.

    Day 8 – Toronto

    A city tour lets you discover the metropolis on Lake Ontario. Numerous historic buildings form a charming contrast to the skyscrapers that shape the cityscape. You discover the St. Lawrence Market, the Canadian version of New York’s Flatiron Building, Chinatown, and the Rogers Centre. A visit to the viewing terrace of the 535 m high CN Tower offers you a view of the metropolis and Lake Ontario. Spend the afternoon exploring on your own.

    Day 9 – Toronto

    Today a day trip takes you to one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world: With thunderous roar, the Niagara River plunges over the almost 1,000 m wide and 55 m deep rocky step, before which you can enjoy the spectacular up-close view of the natural phenomenon from a boat. This is followed by a walk through the Victorian cottage town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and a cable car ride across the swirls of the Niagara River.

    Day 10 - Through lakes and forests

    Start your journey at Toronto ‘s Union Station with the Canadian. Experience Ontario’s lakes and forests on today’s ride across the Canadian Shield. Sit back and let yourself be pampered in the dining car! Elevated viewing areas in the panoramic wagon, clad in a glass dome, allow you to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view.

    Day 11 – From Ontario to Manitoba

    With the change from the province of Ontario to Manitoba, today’s landscape also changes over the course of the day. Lakes and forests are followed by prairies.

    Day 12 – Prairie – Granary and Pastureland

    Enjoy the excellent care on board as you traverse the prairies. Cereal cultivation and herds of cattle make the area one of the great agricultural regions of the world.

    Day 13 – On the Icefields Parkway to Banff

    In the morning, the train reaches Jasper. A spectacular day on the Icefields Parkway awaits you on Canada’s most scenic road. Every bend in the road offers breath-taking views of dramatic mountain ranges, glaciers and lakes, waterfalls and rivers. Stop at Lake Louise, the jewel of the Rocky Mountains, and you’ll quickly understand why this is one of Canada’s most photographed places. In the afternoon you will reach Banff.

    Day 14 – Banff National Park

    Banff National Park awaits you with an incomparable combination of peaks in lofty heights, emerald lakes and a fresh breeze – it is considered one of the most spectacular scenery and recreational areas in North America. Explore Tunnel Mountain with Hoodoos viewpoint, Bow Falls, and many other highlights. Take the gondola up to Sulphur Mountain for spectacular views.

    Day 15 – Jasper

    Return to the Icefields Parkway and experience the Columbia Icefields glaciers from the Glacier Skywalk vantage point. If you haven’t stood here before, you won’t believe it. Continue to Jasper. If time permits, enjoy a stroll in Maligne Canyon before checking in to your hotel.

    Day 16 - Off to the Pacific!

    In the morning, return to the Canadian for the final leg of the train. Some of the most breath-taking and varied railway lines in the world await you. Glittering lakes, coastal rainforest, and desert-like Fraser Canyon are where all the beauty of British Columbia unfolds. Mount Robson will amaze you and drive you through the vast, fertile Frasier Valley towards the Pacific Ocean.

    Day 17 - Vancouver

    You arrive in Vancouver in the morning. The cosmopolitan city is located in the middle of a beautiful landscape between the coast and the mountains. On a city tour, you will see lovingly restored Victorian-era buildings in the old town. After a visit to Chinatown, take a scenic drive through Stanley Park with great views of the skyline and visit the totem poles set up in the park.

    Day 18 - West Coast rainforest

    Cross the Lions Gate Bridge to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. A truly extraordinary adventure awaits you here: take a walk through the treetops on a free-swinging rope bridge and stroll along elevated promenades through the temperate rainforest. The afternoon in Vancouver is at your disposal.

    Day 19 - Farewell to Canada

    The morning is at your disposal. Transfer to the airport around noon. (B)

    This transcontinental Canada crossing runs for 4,000 miles, or 6,400 km, by rail through eight provinces from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The drive begins in Nova Scotia’s captivating coastal scenery, past lighthouses and fishing villages, and follows the thunderous St. Lawrence River to Quebec and Montreal, where you’ll enjoy the French joie-de-vivre. Ontario welcomes you to cosmopolitan Toronto and the roaring waters of Niagara Falls. Passing lakes and forests, your rail journey takes you through the endless plains of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The breath-taking Rocky Mountains with huge glaciers and sparkling lakes await you in Alberta and British Columbia, followed by the Pacific rainforests in the Vancouver area. This trip is a declaration of love to the land of the maple leaf, to the varied nature, the infinite expanses, the fascinating wildlife and the stunningly friendly Canadians!

    Your Train: Canadian

    The Canadian’s carriage date back to the Golden Age of North American railroads.

    Cabin couchette

    This is an open compartment with two wide armchairs opposite each other. At night, the opposite seats are pushed together to form a wide bed and a second bed is folded down from the ceiling (lying area: 109 × 178 cm). Heavy curtains ensure the desired privacy. Washbasin, shower and toilet are available as communal facilities at the end of each wagon.

    Sleeper (twin compartment)

    In this category, a closed compartment (220 × 151 cm and toilet room, 84 × 64 cm) is at your sole disposal. In addition to two freely movable chairs, your compartment also includes a separate toilet and its own sink with mirror and plug. Just a few meters away is the shower, which is available to all travellers of that wagon. For the night rides, the sleeper supervisor prepares your beds one above the other (lying area: 79 × 180 cm).

    Sleeper (single compartment)

    In this category you book a private compartment (196 × 110 cm) with a comfortable seat, which is converted into a bed for night trips (lying area: 76 × 180 cm; narrowing from hip height to 66 cm). Toilet, sink, mirror, and plug are part of the equipment. After the bed is folded down, the toilet and sink can no longer be used. The communal shower installed in the middle of the wagon is easily accessible via the aisle.

    Prestige Sleeper Class

    In the Prestige Sleeper Class, you have the opportunity to travel in compartments with a private shower and toilet. The newly refurbished cars in this category offer, as further advantages compared to the traditional sleeper car, over 50% larger compartments, a 60% larger panoramic window, a minibar service and a flat screen with access to a selection of films. In the compartment, free drinks are served on request.
